What An Inspiration // Breast Cancer Awareness Love

every-scar-tells-a-story_breast-cancer-awareness-month

With all the Fall goodness and focus on Halloween, it’s easy to forget that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness month. And as a woman, it’s a concern that’s ingrained in my psyche, though men can be diagnosed with this awful disease too. It should be on all of our minds. And the focus should be on wellness.

I watched this short video and was inspired to share it… Maggie from The Bald Ballerina is only 25 years old and fighting a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis which is terminal. She’s had a double mastectomy, and as a ballerina, it has given her the body she’s always wanted, which has also given her more confidence and has taught her to live in the moment. How incredible is that?

It’s amazing to me the strength of character that arises from tragedy like this, when it could easily and without question, steal your spirit and knock you to your knees.

Watch the short video below…

Our minds are so powerful… I grew up really hating my own breasts, and at one point I thought to myself, if I continue hating them just because of the way they looked, one day, I might not have them anymore. I’m not saying this is what happened to Maggie, or that this is “how” women get breast cancer, but it was a thought that turned my own dislike for my body into love for my body. And I think the bottom line is that we have to get to know ourselves and our flaws and love our entire being, regardless of what we think it should look like or what the media makes us think is beautiful.

There are plenty of ways to help spread the word about Breast Cancer Awareness, but on a personal level, this is a reminder to cherish our bodies and be grateful for that which we have been given.
