I’m having so much fun with these Sunday house crush posts because it really gives me a chance to peek around the real estate on the mountain, especially into areas I can’t go by car or foot! There are so many really amazing places up here that you never really know about unless maybe you’re a realtor or house hunting. Many of the estates I’ve been sharing lately are out of reach in practical affordability, but who says we can’t dream, right?
I love that this particular waterfront estate doesn’t look typical to the mountain. I think I am mostly drawn to those kind of houses because the log cabins and mountain style homes you see alongside the road here and in many California mountain towns are all similar. When I find gems that have been custom built or stand out among the rest, I love to see how they’ve somehow captured a mountain vibe while being a little different from the rest, like this one.
But for the record, The Peninsula House is still my favorite!
For instance, many homes up here (unless around the golf course) don’t have a lawn or grass surrounding them, as I was so used to seeing growing up in LA. They don’t often have fenced in backyards either; another thing I had to get used to. If they’re in a gated community, the chances are higher for both or even in the Palisades area where it feels a little more suburban. But where I am, for example, the houses are more spread out among the forest and don’t often have set property lines.
I love the sun room on this house in particular. Look at those ceiling windows and images how beautiful it would be to sit in that room while it snows and read quietly, or share it with family and friends playing games or gathered by the fire. I just love it. Otherwise, the house needs some updating, decoratively speaking, but it’s just got beautiful bones.
