New Purchases for the Home… a little here, a little there

I don’t like to buy things needlessly {unless they go on my feet ;} and I love repurposing my old furniture and home decor into new rooms and new uses. In fact, I get really excited about it. Kind of like DIYing something new to wear from something that was about to get donated! But for instance, instead of tossing it into a dump somewhere, we split our old sectional sofa between two spaces in the new house when our long-awaited new sofa arrived. The chaise section is in our master bedroom and the other half is in a little nook at the end of the hallway.

But I came to a point in decorating where I just needed some new pieces to complete and define the rooms {though they’re not done just yet}. For instance, my new office is about 3 times the size of my old one {and yes, I’m giddy about it!} It’s so big, I have a sitting area and flatscreen on the wall. I originally thought I’d use part of the old sectional in here so I wouldn’t have to buy anything new, but it didn’t work. So I found these black velvet chairs at Joss and Main last week for $121 EACH! That’s amazing for chairs. Yes I had to put them together, no, they’re not the best velvet on the planet. But they’re comfy, they look great in the space and they arrived in less than a week!

I decided a fluffy white Flokati rug for the sitting area in my office would be nice but it hasn’t arrived just yet and if I don’t like it, I can use it in the living room, the upstairs hallway or even the master bedroom. I also thought if I didn’t like the chairs in my office, I could use them in the master as well. I will usually only purchase something if it has a possible second or third use because there’s always a chance it won’t work. But they do and I love them and I almost want to get another set for the master because the price is so right. Currently they’re sitting on/around a natural cow skin. Sad yes, but also fabulous and also, a gift from my stepdad who’s had it since the early 80’s I’m guessing {and it may end up in the living room}.

But as for the rug, I’m almost thinking the soft pink one would be better. I just don’t want to overdo it on pink really because I have peachy/blush drapes {though only one of the 3 windows is hung at the moment because hanging curtains is a horrendously frustrating task} and obviously, pink and hot pink pops of color everywhere. Gray was another option I really liked, but the size I was looking for was sold out. But again, I thought I’d start with a color that could go elsewhere if it didn’t work & I’d go from there. I’m still on the hunt for little ottomans {obsessing over these, worried the colors may not be right though} and a side table or coffee table, but I’d love to find a vintage one LIKE THIS but for about $1000 less.

As for the living room… I still haven’t purchased a coffee table yet, or figured out my console table situation, but I purchased these really pretty lanterns and one of them will most probably make a home there. They are quite large as well, so I need to find some really great big candles for them. The little cocktail table is sitting next to a chair and looks really great in the room, as do the pillows. I wish I bought 4 actually. I haven’t gotten the adorable branch wall hooks just yet but I bought two sets, one the color shown here and one white set as well.

And last but not least, I found these adorable vintage-looking Union Jack flag ottoman stools and thought they would be a perfect fit to our UK space… remember our old den/game room, with the gold stump tables, Union Jack flag print, and the custom Victorian dog portraits? I’m recreating this space in the upstairs hallway and though I haven’t really begun decorating that area yet, I can’t WAIT to finish it. These will sit at the ends of the burgundy chairs.
