My Red Carpet Style & Dress for The People’s Choice Awards 2016

What I’m Wearing…

* Black matte jersey dress with cut out & crystal neckline Laundry by Shelli Segal {I’m wearing a 4}
* Aqua and crystal drop earrings by Gerard Yosca are a few years old, and added to the ’60s vibe of my Bardot hair {which you can also see in this hair tutorial}
* Alexander Wang clutch {pink tassel is my own addition}
* Patent strappy sandals by Michael Kors {a few years old, but never worn… I always thought the heel was a little too short, but they were the perfect height for the length of this dress. I was going to actually wear them with the short feather dress as well because they have bit of a ’60s vibe, so you can see them in that snap from this post}
* I didn’t get any photos of it, but I was wearing my Helmut Lang leather moto jacket over my shoulders as well

When I left for LA on Tuesday afternoon, I had two dress options from BCBG, both of which I liked, but didn’t feel one hundred percent about. Though I loved the long lace dress, I was honestly leaning toward the short black frock with feathers… but it was still too big. I had overnighted a smaller size but with a storm coming in, I had to get off the mountain before I actually got the dress. I also bought a vintage Balmain dress on eBay that I was hoping would come on time, both dresses would have gone to the top of my list of what I was going to wear to the People’s Choice Awards last Wednesday night. But I didn’t have either of those options.

So after the most treacherous drive in the fog and rain to Downtown LA, I decided at around 7 pm to head to the Grove and check Nordstrom and Barney’s for a final dress option. By this time I knew it would be raining and cold and I was still set on the long sleeve, floor-length Pucci dress I had found first, but that was far too expensive to actually buy. When I got to Nordstrom, I found the three long sleeve options below…

  Just okay…

  Better…

  BEST!

And though I was the only one wearing a long dress, it still felt more comfortable and more flattering than the too-big short and feathered dress, and much more functional than the lace dress with the slit up the front.

So this is what I went with and it was all the things I needed it to be; formal enough, warm, and not so long that I’d trip on it if I didn’t hold it up all night. So it was a win. DO I think the other dresses were a little more special? Sure, but since I wasn’t a celebrity getting yelled at by the photographers to ‘LOOK OVER HERE’, but instead working the red carpet, I felt totally appropriate, 100% comfortable and totally happy in my dress.

It’s Laundry by Shelli Segal and was on sale for just under $200 so that was a score too. Now I have to try on the smaller feather dress and decide if I’m going to keep it, because it’s really so cute, I may just have to if it fits right, then send the other two back. The vintage Balmain though IS DREAMY and I can’t wait to wear it and share!
