Margot Tenenbaum DIY Costume + Hair & Makeup Tutorial

In Wes Anderson’s film, The Royal Tenenbaums, Gwyneth Paltrow plays Margot Tenenbaum, an adopted literary genius, who’s in love with her brother, never smiles, smokes like a chimney, and has an overall lack of care for life. She is my favorite character Gwyneth Paltrow has ever played, and she’s one of the easiest last minute Halloween costume ideas you can whip up from items you may already have in your closet.

In the film she wears a striped Izod/Lacoste polo dress in various colors, a long vintage fur coat, burgundy penny loafers, white gloves, a red hair barrette, and carries and Hermes Birkin bag. But I didn’t have any of these items except for the loafers and the gloves. But what I did have was creativity!

I DIY’d this little dress from my husband’s old polo shirt… and YES, it’s FAR TOO SHORT to actually wear, unless you’re going for a “sexy Margot” because it’s Halloween, and then FOR SURE it will work.

But by simply adding a pair of cuffed skinny jeans {or keeping the coat on for the entire night} it’s doable. OR you can spend $145 on a new Lacoste Polo dress.
