What I’m Wearing…
- White dress I’ve had for a few years but have never worn … mostly because of the way the top/chest fit. It is stretchy, ruched, but it felt like it was constantly choking me. The other day I decided to cut it right down the center and open it up and it worked! Not only was it more comfortable, it turned out to be much more flattering. It’s not an expensive dress at all, and I was about to turn it into a house dress (which I talk about on last week’s Substack episode) but I thought I’d give it one last chance and it worked! Also, because the threads run horizontally, it won’t continue shredding beyond the thread you’ve cut it to, if that makes sense. I’ve included other similar options in the shopping widget below.
- Vintage oversized denim shirt… I’ve had this for a million years, and while it was too hot during the day to keep it on, it’s perfect at night when the temps drop and the breeze picks up. CHECK OUT this old post from 2012 showing all the ways I wore it (and other denim shirts) up until then! I think I need an updated version now!
- Vintage scarf… folded into a triangle and knotted on the side. I wanted to add detail to the dress that wasn’t a belt. The first layer is not quite an empire waist but hits higher than my actual waist, and the dress sort of just has no shape below it… so adding he scarf elevated the look and also created a visual focal point at the waist, and I loved how it also added a European vibe to the overall look. * I also used a scarf in my last outfit, so I think scarves are having a moment, accessory-wise.
- Saint Laurant YSL sunglasses which are sold out because I bought them a few years ago on Shopbop (there’s an exact pair on Ebay right now! and a pair in tortoise BUT ALSO, THESE are super cute as well!) and when they were delivered and I tried them on, they were crooked – but I didn’t realize it until it was too late to send them back. I was looking through my sunglasses collection a few weeks ago, after a few years of wearing cheapies, trying to get a feel for the uncertainty of the sunglass moment (lol) I pulled these out, and sure enough, they were completely crooked on me. I thought about selling them but didn’t want someone else stuck with a crooked pair. I finally searched YouTube, hoping I might be able to fix them (because they’re plastic, I didn’t think they had a chance) but low and behold, I found THIS VIDEO that easily allowed me to fix my sunglasses and now I feel like I have a brand new pair!
- Gucci chain necklace (ancient) Tiffany key necklace and various silver and white gold rings
- Old slouchy blushy-pink suede bag but I linked to one almost identical!
- Avarcas (Pons) sandals in French Blue (I used to live in my black and brown pairs and then the brand sent me this blue pair and a peach pair, which I didn’t wear as much) but I thought it was the perfect finishing touch to this outfit. See them here in a t-shirt I just wore recently on my Substack video and I still wear those pants as well… also, a leather espadrille flat like these would be a cute option too!
