I Try and Look Up to the Sky But My Eyes Burn

casual style oversized baggy outfit, scrunch ruffle socks with sneakers, puma palermo shoes, fashion

What I’m Wearing…

* F*CK YE t-shirt (in a Large) by Winnetka Bowling League aka Matthew Koma (randomly found via IG – who also happens to be Hilary Duff’s husband) – All profits from sales will be donated to The Blue Card Fund, which provides direct financial assistance to Holocaust survivors in need – I almost wore this DIY Rose Patch T-shirt, but I liked the bold letters better.
* Navy bomber jacket (wrinkled 🤣) because I left it crumpled up in my car by accident last week when it was raining, HOWEVER, I didn’t mind the look, and it kind of picked up the crinkled leather look on my little duffle bag
* Army green cargos… which I actually picked up at Target, randomly, because they were so soft and looked comfy and on sale. I sized up so they’d be a bit baggy/oversized, but I almost wish I went up two sizes. I think they were trying to be barrel jeans based on the length because they’re not quite cropped and not quite full-length, so I cuffed them up for this look. I’ve been on the hunt for a vintage pair military fatigues, but they’re super hard to find (and I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on them) so in the meantime I’ve found this suitable cheapy pair that are super-comfy and were 30% off 😊 …I have this more fitted high waist version from Lee, but I really wanted a relaxed fit/comfy version. AND Levis has a cute version that are longer, but still are a bit too fitted at the waist for me. I really wanted a slouched feel, but these are cute. AND here’s a ridiculously expensive pair, for no reason at all, by AMO – and almost sold out of all sizes.
* Knit scrunch socks with an embroidered ruffle… which I’ve had for AGES, and I think I have them in black too. I rarely wear them, but socks have been having a moment with the younger generations and I think most GenXers and maybe even Millenials have sock PTSD from the ’80s and ’90s 🤣 – but they’re honestly so cute! I’ve linked similar styles in the shopping widgets. Also, check out this post: HOW TO WEAR SOCKS NOW for a little inspo! My initial instinct to wear ankle socks was overruled by my inkling to make this outfit a little more CAMP, if you know what I mean 😉
* Black rectangle sunglasses
* Puma Palermo sneakers
* Alexander Wang baby duffle bag It’s either the Rocco or the Rockie (ca 2009 – though I may have purchased it a year later)… I have this studded bag in all three sizes and LOVED the medium size so much, I used my white one FOREVER – and though I have used this bag occasionally and in posts, I never really used it as my daily bag, so when I pulled it out of my closet the other day, it felt like the right option for this look and I loved it so much that I started using it on the daily. (see the baby bag here, the large version here, and the white one here – although I used them all countless time, in numerous OOTDs here! – ANYWAY, there are a bunch of new styles now that are adorable!

* Title: Winnetka Bowling League – My Own Summer (Shove It) – (a cover of the song by the Deftones – 1997) – Thought it would be fitting to share a song by the band who made the shirt (and not by the artist whose name is on the shirt)

I was driving around town looking for a brick building as my backdrop because green and navy always feel complete with burgundy, which feels very ’90s to me, since those were the three major colors from 91-94 I think… but what I hadn’t noticed until I was editing my photos was that the window trim matched my pants almost to the exact hue, and the shutters, while they might be black, read navy and match my jacket 🤣 This kind of serendipity makes me scream with happiness because it sort of validates my intuitive guidance and makes me grateful that I not only listen, but am so attuned to it, that I don’t even realize it until after I trust it and everything works out even better than I imagined.

This is important because I spent much of my 40s feeling like I couldn’t trust my intuition anymore, and even spoke about it in therapy numerous times. Because I’ve always felt very intuitive and able to trust my intuition to guide me in life, the idea of having lost it was confusing. And that confusion AND the loss of my intuition were actually huge red flags that I wish I hadn’t overlooked at the time. I came to understand much later, through healing and inner work, that sometimes, when another person seeks to control you, keeping you off balance, confused and not able to trust yourself, is how they are able to so easily manipulate you into giving over your entire self to them without even realizing it. Whether they know they’re doing it or not doesnt’ matter. The point is, if at any point your sense of self starts deteriorating in ANY way, this is a red flag that something or someone close to you does not have your best interest at heart, and it’s probably a good indication that you should get away from them.

However, if you don’t have a strong sense of self to begin with, they will easily find their way in as well… but it goes to show, when someone is a good liar, they’ll make even the strongest of us dissappear, so to speak.

The weather has been a bit bipolar lately, one day it’s overcast and chilly and drizzly and the next day it’s 90degrees and sunny, so hot I can’t walk barefoot on the cement in my own backyard. PS! IT’S HOT ON YOUR DOGGIES PAWS TOO! I’m obsessed with worrying about dog paws on hot summer day. I cannot help it! Anyway, this particular day was cloudy, and for some reason, cloudy days shoot really well and feel so much more moody than sunny days. Interestingly enough, they affect our “moods” the same way! Although, I must admit, that I am always grateful for an overcast day because when it’s hot here, IT’S HOT, and I find myself a little less patient and a little more irritable while out and about in it, and so I relax a bit in this weather. ALSO… and I think this is just fun, the darker images are screenshots from a video whereas the slightly brighter, more detailed images were from the photo setting with the timer on my iPhone. Sometimes I still miss the beautiful photos my Nikon captured, but the ease of propping my iPhone up on my car bumper always reminds me of my early days of blogging with my little Canon Powershot camera, pulling over on the side of Mullholand on the way to the art gallery in the mornings when I finally got brave enough to shoot my outfits outside instead of in front of my computer in the gallery. Boy has the world changed since then – 🤣 – when people would pull over and ask if I was okay or drive by slowly staring at me wondering what I was doing… whereas now it’s so normal to see, noone even notices. I kind of love that in a way (but wow, that feels like two lifetimes ago).

casual spring outfit, oversized t-shirt, baggy look

Side note: My Coffee Bean order is an ice-blended mocha with a dome lid, no whip (medium or large) 😜
