my DIY my style Spring 2011 outfits wearing my DIYs

From Scarf to Shawl with 1-2 Yards of Fabric

diy scarf to shawl

What I’m Wearing
* black cotton tank top
* Rich & Skinny Easy Money Lira jeans/legging . . . I think I got these on HauteLook.
* Vintage rosary beads and chains + bangles & leather lanyard bracelet
* Cynthia Rowley “Constance” bag
* Burberry espadrilles

A simple outfit really . . . punched up with the scarf/shawl. Using a few yards of your fabric of choice is a simple and budget friendly way to create a great scarf collection. I leave the ends raw but you may choose to hem them if you like.

* Or easily create a little shawl with a 70’s vibe. Inspiration: Winter Kate Condor Cardigan

Use 1 yard for a shorter shawl and 2 yards for a longer one. You can always start with 2 then cut away if you don’t like it. The lighter/sheer/chiffon fabrics are better and will stay on your shoulders without slipping. Heavier fabric will tend to want to slip off, especially if you go with the 2 yards.

A crocheted lace would be fantastic for this really . . . very boho/hippie.

Lay your fabric over your shoulders, giving yourself a little extra around the neck …find the center by making sure your ends meet.

Beginning just below your shoulder, mark one side of your fabric. Lay your fabric on the floor and cut a slit about 12″ long {shorter if you like} following your mark.

Fold your fabric in half, inside out, and using your first slice as a pattern, cut the other side of the fabric the same length. I leave the edges raw, but you may choose to hem them.
