DIY Slashed Sleeved Sweatshirt | Cute & Simple!

slashed sweatshirt -

Inspired by this Slasher Knit Sweater, I got busy on a plain heathered blue sweatshirt I bought last year that I hadn’t worn yet. Remember when I bought like 5 sweatshirts from the men’s department at Asos last year? {if not, check out my outfit posts aztec sweatshirt & my WTF sweatshirt} Well, this one felt a little boring and maybe too masculine to wear so it’s been sitting in my drawer folded ever since. I thought about cutting the neckline as well, as I have in the past with many t-shirts and even sweaters, but I went with the sleeves for something a little new and different.

The great thing about sweatshirt material or fleece/cotton, is that rips just get better with time however, they will stretch just little larger at first so start with smaller cuts if you’re not sure how to go. They will fray a little at first, but should stay about the same size after you cut & stretch them initially.

What You’ll Need…

* Sweatshirt
* Scissors
* Optional: measuring tape
* Your fingers 🙂

Steps…

DIY Slashed sleeve sweatshirt-3

* Lay your sweatshirt flat and follow the natural creases of your sleeves. Simply cut 4-5 horizontal slits around 1-2 inches each equally spaced down your sleeves.

* Using your fingers, stretch out the slits so that the material curls a little around the edges. See the difference above… You can wash/dry regularly and these slits will just get better over time.

* If you’re really crafty, use crystals, pearls, beads, chains, safety pins, or your choice of trim around the edges of each slit for a more unique look!

And… Voila!

I think it will actually look a little better after a wash/dry!

The great thing about men’s sweatshirts are the sleeves are a little bit longer, so I cut little thumb-holes to keep my sleeves stretched long to show my blouse underneath.

It started snowing yesterday so I had to bundle up, but I can’t wait to wear it in late Spring with cut offs for a more relaxed and casual look. I may cut the neckline too… we’ll see 🙂
