DIY Flower -Hair- Clips Turned Christmas Tree Ornaments

flower hair clip christmas tree ornament

Last Christmas while playing with my new camera, I pinched a flower hair clip onto our tree just to get a fun photo of it. And while editing the photos, realized how cute it was and vowed to make them the following year for my tree. And here we are, the following year 😉

Without an idea of the exact type of flower I wanted to use, I went to JoAnn’s to grab some supplies and their flower section, which is usually overflowing, was almost bare. Really, the only faux flowers they had were purple and blue hydrangeas. Being that I didn’t want to traipse all over town, I figured I’d just make it work and am really so happy I did. I decided to do the entire tree in purples and blues {with silver & white} and found that the LED “cool white lights” on our flocked white tree gives off a silvery/bluish/lavender light which is perfect… needless to say, I’m kind of in love. It’s my favorite tree I’ve ever done!

What You’ll Need…

Flower Hair Clips DIY_Flower Christmas Tree Ornaments-materials

* Artificial flowers of your choice
* Hot glue gun + glue {mine is very old and has random bits from old crafts glued onto it}
* Metal hair clips {particularly “alligator” or “duck & bill” style with a strong grip – I found my Scunci hair clips at the drug store but can’t seem to find them anywhere online}
* Felt in matching colors
* Scissors
* Martha Stewart glitter glue

Steps…

* Cut off longer stems.

* Cut a small oval from your felt.

* Slip your felt oval between the clip. Place a substantial amount of hot glue on the top of your clip and sides of your felt.

* Quickly set your flowers in place {the purple flowers were smaller so I used 2 small sections on either side of the clip. My blue flowers came off in large sections so I only needed one to do the trick}

* Holding your flowers in place, pinch your felt oval up and hold until your flowers set.

* Yours should look like this.

* Create sparkly centers with your Martha Stewart glitter glue.
