Dare to Wear: Anklets, Ankle Bracelets

Like seed bead jewelry and friendship bracelets, I wore an anklet for much of the late 80’s and through the mid 90’s. Sometimes made from either handmade seed beads or friendship bracelets but also sometimes from leather or shells or even ethnic bells, and occasionally, a simple and delicate gold or silver chain. Sometimes worn tightly and sometimes loose and hanging low, I thought ankle bracelets added a little dose of femininity to the ankle, and even had a sweeping vine tattooed around my own. Then somewhere through the years, as trends faded and lower back tattoos were unfortunately renamed “tramp stamps”, anklets too lost their luster and became less associated with the fashionable crowd. But lately I’ve seen them popping up on blogger’s ankles internet-wide and though it could be for various reasons, I’m betting it has something to do with one trend-setting Olsen twin who was spotted wearing double ankle chains last Summer.I still find them pretty though and to bring a certain femininity and even sexiness to the ankle, especially in the Summer months when shoes bear more bare feet than in winter… I’m thinking I may have to try one on for size.
